History of Father’s Day

Father’s Day is a celebrated in the United States on third Sunday of June. It’s a day on which not only we honor dads and stepdads, but also grandfathers and father figures. Many attribute the observance of the holiday to Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, who is believed to have petitioned for an annual celebration in honor of fathers honoring her own dad. Others believe the holiday originated following a 1907 mining disaster in West Virginia that inadvertently left hundreds of children without a dad.
